Holiday season

Well that’s the holiday season started and so looking forward to taking a couple of weeks away from work. Due to various issues, my time at work over the last couple of years has been ‘challenging’ on a number of fronts, so it is really nice to just switch off for a fortnight.

Just entered the Portobello New Year’s day promathon – always great for a laugh and for checking out the various shades of grey on the runner’s faces. Planning also to do the customary Boxing Day Ayr ’Turkey Trot’ 10K whilst over at the outlaws in Ayrshire. I might even do the local Black Bun run on Hogmanay in Dunbar, but better not get ahead of myself.

Achilles pain continues unabated, but i’m just gonna get on with it. Been at a couple of Christmas ‘dos’ this week, so only ran a couple of times – a nice headtorch 7 miler around local country roads on Tuesday club night and then an invigorating 8 miler this morning with Susan and Mary. We’d originally planned a hilly one up the Lammermuirs, but woosed out with all the wind and rain, and opted for a nice lowland route from East Linton, up to Traprain then along to Biel and back along the Tyne to East Linton. Really enjoyable once we got going.

Spent the rest of the day in Edinburgh doing some last minute shopping all over the place, including buying a new car – our old 2002 Saab 9-3 on 189,000 miles is showing serious signs of terminal decline and after various outlays in the past few months, we have decided it is time to let the old girl go and we found a really nice  Saab 9-3 2008 diesel saloon – lovely.
